Do I have IBS

Do I have IBS - Find out if you do or do not have Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

The Warning Signs

One of the ways to diagnose if you have IBS is through the following criteria. If you have predominant diarrhea, predominant constipation, or the alternation of the two for 3 consecutive months.

Often it is also characterized with pain in the gut region. This is often not a fully comprehensive test however. There are many other types of conditions that follow this same criteria and misdiagnosis can happen.

The Professional Approach

The preferred method to validate if you have IBS is through a gastrointestinal specialist. They will either review the lengthy records of tests that you have had, or they will issue you to go have a series of tests performed.

They will evaluate the test results from blood tests, urine tests, barium enema tests, colonoscopy, endoscopy, etc. The list is not comprehensive nor are all of these tests required for every individual.

Once a GI specialist has a full understanding of your test results, he/she can then rule out the possible conditions that you may have and come to the conclusion that you have no serious conditions, hence you may only have IBS.

Often those patients who come back with all results showing as negative, are primary candidates for IBS. When physicians come back with no identifiable causes for their symptoms, they are known to have an irritable bowel. Hence the terminology used for this ailment as they know the bowel is irritable, but do not understand the causes.

If you want to clear up the question of "Do I have IBS?" then you definitely want to seek the aid of a physician to have the necessary tests ordered to validate your condition/ailment. This way you can narrow down your area of concern and understand what your next steps may be.

There are many options and ways to help reverse your condition of IBS, once diagnosed. The best methods of course, will take more time but aim at the source of the underlying problem within the body. The results are permanent, which serves in its own right, to require you to be more patient as it will take more time to reverse, versus just working the symptoms at a surface level, on a daily basis.
