Research IBS

Research IBS - Are you struggling to find the latest news on how to cure your IBS symptoms?

Old Statements Gaining Acceptance

There have been research and progress made in the pharmaceutical department, eventhough it may seem dreadfully slow. There have been news that mirror what I have been vouching for many years, is that IBS is a condition that is caused by bacterial overgrowth rather than being caused by stress or other psychological factors.

Many traditional doctors are still looking at IBS as a psychological problem and are still directing their patients to seek help from a psychiatrist. Whereas the more knowledgeable and up-to-date doctors are starting to realize that bacteria is the leading cause of IBS.

What is SIBO?

The new phenomenon that researchers are working on, is called Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). There are many indications that, due to the overgrowth in the small intestines, the symptoms of diarrhea predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome is present.

A New Leading Antibiotic?

There is a medication called Rifaximin or formally Xifaxan, that is an antibiotic that passes entirely through the length of the gut without being absorbed into the bloodstream. This type of intestinal focused antibiotic has been proven successful to remove many IBS related symptoms for at least 10 weeks following the treatment, as Dr. Pimentel, M.D., director of the GI Motility Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in the city of Los Angeles in the United States, as noted.

Skeptics Joining the Bandwagon

This type of finding has been significant. It helps to lead those physicians who are still skeptic to start to realize the possibilities of bacteria overgrowth in the small intestines. SIBO occurs when the small bowel has more than a specific number of organisms per millilitre.

Tests for SIBO is Available

There are tests available to determine if you have SIBO. SIBO is also known as Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth Syndrome (SBBOS). This test is called the Hydrogen Breath Test (HBT) which can help diagnose if you have bacteria overgrowth in the small intestines.

Always ensure that you consult with a physician before following any type of antibiotic treatment program.
