Everyone in this world was born at peace with themselves. However, depending on one’s health, one’s irritability levels can vary drastically from one person to another. The other factor that can affect a person’s irritability levels, is by their personality.

A person’s personality is often shaped by their parents genes as well as what they experience in their life since birth. Many of these experiences are factors that have already occurred and now exists in the past. Your current ‘core personality’ is likely to have been shaped, at least for the most part already. Therefore, we will not focus on changing personalities as that is a very difficult task to do.

Someone’s innate behaviour that has already been shaped, is extremely hard to change. The one area that can be changed, is one’s health, including their mental responses. Even if someone has a chronic condition like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), it can be reversed with some investment of time and effort. The area of health and mental responses, is where we will focus much of our time.

When a person is born with or is affected by ill-health sometime in their life, with it also being chronic, it can truely affect a person’s irritability levels. A person’s irritability levels can also become habitual when the ill-health is there to stay.

Those who have IBS, are extremely susceptible to becoming irritable, simply because their nervous system has become much more sensitive to external forces. When something happens that is perceived as negative, it can quickly draw in a sufferer’s mood and drain it quickly. Any negative events can quickly stir up mood swings from very happy, to becoming extremely dis-pleased.

Those who have IBS are quick to feel upset because their nervous system is far more exposed than someone without IBS. This can also affect their adrenal glands because they are more jittery, they often use up more energy from their adrenal glands than others do. This results in them feeling irritable extremely quickly and if this lasts too long or is very extreme, they often feel fatigued quickly thereafter.

Adrenal glands help to keep a person’s alertness levels high, but when IBS sufferers deplete this area of their glands, they often have short spans of endurance, then quickly become tired.

Irritability and Longevity

There have been much research in the area of irritability versus longevity. A prime example of this, is with the primates who roam our undisturbed lands in the wild or in conservation parks. After a decade of research in understanding primate behaviour, researchers realized that the primates have the same personality traits that humans possess.

Two of the personality traits observed, is those primates who are very personable and unlikely to become irritable, versus those who are extremely irritable. Often those who are irritable, show their mood swings by way of physical behaviour. This can be in the form of vocal and/or physical extertion, often displaying dominant behaviour over others.

If you find yourself irritable, do you also find yourself upset or frustrated with the situation, resulting in behaviours that can be seen through your physical or vocal expressions? If you do, this is perfectly normal as this is how humans show their mood and it helps them to relieve the built up energy. However, not every human being relieves their energy this way. Many people relieve their energy in a subtle manner, which is the recommended method.

When you show your aggravation externally, it can further aggravate you and utilize your adrenal glands unnecessarily, resulting in them becoming drained far more quickly. Being aggravated can occur with anyone, as everyone has areas where they can have their ‘buttons’ pushed.

‘Letting out the steam’ is a good way to stop the built up energy from aggravating you from within, however, it is most important to learn how to stop yourself from being irritable in the first place. It has been shown with decades of research and statistical analysis, that those primates who are irritable, are often quite dominant.

Whether the primate is dominant or not however, those which possess quick mood swings, were almost always the ones to pass away far earlier versus those who are able to control their mood levels. The primates that were mostly calm in any given situation, whether aggravated or not, are often the ones who were most grounded, had a much more stable social life and were the ones who lived many years longer versus their irritable relatives.

If you want to have a more stable life, keep your life span to a maximum, and lessen any other illnesses from occurring, it would be wise to keep your irritability levels to a minimum. Take some time to absorb in this information/tip and always keep this in mind when stressful events occur. We are not that much more different than our primate cousins and we can definitely learn much from their statistics.

Minimizing Irritability Factors and Optimizing Responses

There are many external forces or events that occur out of your control at any given time. That is why, it is important to focus on yourself rather than anything that ‘may happen’ that you simply cannot control. Keep your thoughts collected when it is possible to do so and follow the three aspects of:



These are also known as the 3 C’s that are often used by many experts who can quickly control the situation by controlling themselves first. Even if you are being aggravated directly by an individual, group or event, you must know what the best actions there are, to take.

It is the general nature of all human beings to be collected and calm when left alone, without external influences. You sleep often in peace and are at peace with yourself when you are not affected by others/events.

When something starts to stir up irritable feelings, this is where you want to immediately work on yourself to help contain the situation. First off, you must keep yourself as calm as possible. When you are calm, this means that you are far more capable of feeling and thinking in a collected fashion.

If you are not calm but overly jittery, it prevents you from thinking clearly and thus, the actions you take from there are tough to relate to as being the best choice. Likewise, if you are collected, you can manage the situation far better through your own actions and thereby staying cool.

When you stay cool, it helps with the revolving cycle of keeping calm. This cycle of the 3 C’s will help to keep you and the situation under control. If you cannot keep the situation under control, at least you are able to keep yourself under control, which is by far the most important aspect to life.

This will not only help you in your future, with others, and also with your health. You will more likely be able to retain a fulfilling social life, keeping and maintaining a positive energy amongst friends very well, and keep your own well-being under control consistently. With all of these positivities, you are also far more likely to live a much more longer and fulfilling life.

The 3 C’s are definitely a method that you want to keep in your ‘back pocket’ per say. However, you can also help the chemistry within your body to dampen the exposure of your nervous system, thereby keeping your irritable mood under control. When someone has IBS, it is often that they are quick to become irritable when induced by external forces.

There are a number of factors that go into why an IBS sufferer is far more irritable. This can be due to pre-existing damage to one’s nervous system, it can be an overly stressed nervous system, or a pre-existing parasite that is aggravating the nervous system.

Many people experience irritability at different times in their life, but when we look at the statistics, it is IBS sufferers that have the highest rate of irritability. That is exactly why these sufferers have the condition called ‘Irritable’ bowel syndrome. Their body is quickly irritated and symptoms flare up quickly, resulting in their mood further being affected.

That is why, it is also important to seek an alternative health care practitioner to see what can be done as far as one’s health and condition is concerned. See if it is possible to strengthen a weakened nervous system. See if it is possible to avoid stressful events for a period of time while the body is healing itself, even if this means finding a new job that is less stressful.

Other ways to work on your irritability factors, is to see if you have any parasites in your gut. The gut is where most of one’s nervous system is contained. See if you have any parasites and eradicate them if they exist. Also work on replenishing the adrenal glands so that when stressful events do occur, your body is able to keep up with it.

Having the ability to keep up with alertness in times of concern is important, as we are built with this natural ability/response. If your adrenals quickly get fatigued, you are the ones that are amongst the weakest links. If we truly lived in the wild, you would be one of the first to become extinct.

Work on all of these tips in combination and you will soon be able to see differences in yourself. Empowering yourself to have control over whether you truly become irritable or not. Everyone feels irritable at times but how quickly can you dissolve your irritability factors and levels, is of most importance. Not so much if you can completely stop from feeling irritable, but being able to control and dissolve.
